The Berkeley Flea Market is a weekly gathering in the parking lot of the Ashby BART station. It’s brought together vendors, musicians, and community members for nearly half-century. But now, the group that runs the market has shut it down for the next couple of months.

"There's a possibility that they might move onto Adeline Street itself ... from what I understand they've taken out the necessary papers to file for a permit to do so. It's not set in stone. Everything is being negotiated right now."

Journalist Tony Hicks shares his thoughts about why the Flea Market is shutting down and what he thinks will happen next. You can read his article about the shutdown in Berkeleyside.
