Darnell Moore on coming of age black and free in America

On this edition of Your Call, we speak with writer and Black Lives Matter activist Darnell Moore about his memoir, No Ashes in the Fire: Coming of Age Black and Free in America.

When Moore was 14, three boys from his neighborhood harassed him because they thought he was gay. They tried to set him on fire. He barely escaped. In the retelling of his own experiences, Moore also studies the oppression of those on the margins and celebrates the lives of black LGBTQ people who came before him. What stories are left untold in our national conversation about race, poverty, and discrimination?
