Joe Goode Performance Group’s newest dance-theater piece Nobody Lives Here Now is part of the organization's 30th anniversary season. The show is a poetic fable that mines questions of identity, aging, and disappearance as part of the fragile human condition. Nobody Lives Here Now is highlighted by a fervent classical music score, performed live by Thalea String Quartet, and an original set and video design by David Szlasa. There will be performances at the YBCA Theater in San Francisco through June 24th.
CARAKER: A lot of people who don't have a background in dance are somewhat intimidated by dance ... If you want to take your mom or a friend to see dance, and you're a dance lover, Joe Goode is a great place to start, because it's very clear what his work is about, and it's accessible.
Andy Goldsworthy is a British land artist who makes site-specific pieces; he has several in the Presidio neighborhood of San Francisco. Drawing Water Standing Still is a solo exhibition of his recent films and photographs. The exhibition is open Tuesdays — Saturdays through July 29th at the Haines Gallery in downtown San Francisco.
CARAKER: I walk in the Presidio through some of his work all the time ... so I'm a fan.
Music for Modern Age is a multimedia production from the San Francisco Symphony with live dancers, video projections, and light design. Culminating in Antheil's A Jazz Symphony — music that infuses the orchestral palette with Creole and New Orleans jazz — Michael Tilson Thomas leads this all-American program including works by Ives and Harrison. There will be performances all weekend at Davies Symphony Hall with the last performance on June 25th.
CARAKER: It's a different thing [for the symphony] and that's why I'm interested ... I'm really curious to see how that looks with video projections.
