Kindred: Ernestine Eckstein and Barbara Smith

Ernestine Eckstein and Barbara Smith.

The Queer Power Hour continues Women’s History Month with the story of two lesbians whose lives and activism existed at the intersection of sexuality and race.

Ernestine Eckstein was one of the only Black women in the Homophile movement of the 1960s. Two decades later, Barbara Smith co-founded Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press with Audre Lorde.

Both stories originally aired on Making Gay History.
