Congresswoman Barbara Lee in Oakland

The East Bay’s congressional representative Barbara Lee (CA-13) introduced a bill last year that would greatly expand access to abortions. It gets rid of what’s called the Hyde Amendment, the restriction on abortion spending by the federal government.

REP. BARBARA LEE: Regardless of your views on abortion, that's not the issue. The issue is justice, the issue is fairness.

The bill is stuck in a Republican-controlled congress, but lately it’s been picking up more support — including from presidential candidates. We spoke to Rep. Lee from her office in Oakland.
