Janet Delaney revisits San Francisco's public life with photos of parade and protest

Janet Delaney // MACK Books

It’s been over 30 years since Janet Delaney walked around the SOMA with her view camera, photographing the businesses, people and daily life in the neighborhood before it drastically changed.

And, while she’s worked on other projects around the country and the world, she’s always been drawn back to that neighborhood. For the past decade, she’s been recapturing her old community for a series called SOMA Now. She joined Angela Johnston in studio for an update.

Janet's current exhibition and collection, Public Matters is on display at Euqinom Galleryin the Mission between November 1 and December 22. It brings together photographs she made in Reagan-era San Francisco in the Mission district and beyond. Opening night is November 3rd. Public Matters is also available as a photo book here.
