On this edition of Your Call, we’ll discuss the troubling history of Angel Island’s Immigration Station through the lens of a dance performance dedicated to the 170,000 Chinese immigrants processed there between 1910 and 1940.
The performances, “Within These Walls” and “Dreams of Flight,” are informed by extensive research into the stories of the individuals who were processed and detained there. How can art offer a meditation on healing and build compassion for the plight of immigrants past and present?
Guests:
Lenora Lee, dancer, choreographer and artistic director, and director of Lenora Lee Dance.
Francis Wong, music director and composer for “Within These Walls” and “Dreams of Flight”
