Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Dr. Tim Seelig is the artistic director and conductor of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. He told KALW’s Truc Nguyen about three fantastic arts events happening around the Bay this weekend.
- Katya Presents at Martuni’s (SF) 6/16
- Comic Strips at DNA Lounge (SF) 6/16
- Disco Coalition Happy Hour at the LOOKOUT (SF) 6/14
Check out an evening of song, laughter, and strong cocktails with one of San Francisco’s greatest drag performers Katya Smirnoff-Skyy. She’ll be joined by some special guests for Katya Presents to benefit the New Conservatory Theatre Center. It’s happening this Sunday evening at Martuni’s Piano Bar on Valencia Street.
I love the New Conservator Theatre. It has been providing for the LGBTQ community theatre for over forty years, and they have an amazing educational outreach program which this helps to fund.
Come celebrate Father’s Day with the Broadway Bares’ 4th annual burlesques show Comic Strips. Popular comic book characters will be striping in a tongue-in-cheek series of sexy dances while battling their foes and celebrating all things burlesque. All proceeds will benefit local HIV, hunger, and homeless youth programs. It’s happening this Sunday evening at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco.
They’re not naked, it’s a burlesque show. They’re strippers, but a little Chippendale and the things you might do at home

This Friday there will be a Happy Hour hosted by activists and event organizers from the Disco Coalition with the proceeds benefiting local queer non-profits. It’s the closing to a series of 13 happy hours and talent showcases that have honored local heroes in the queer community. It’s happening this Friday at the LOOKOUT in the Castro.
These people came together just thinking, “What do gays like to do?” And gays like to go to happy hour on Friday night, and they put together karaoke and all types of entertainment during that 5-8.
