Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Chris Treggiari, visual artist and co-curator of the exhibit Oakland, I want you to know... now on view at the Oakland Museum of California, told KALW’s Jen Chien about three cool arts events happening around the Bay this weekend:

The Garage by Amy M. Ho, from the Spaces from Yesterday exhibit at Chandra Cerrito Contemporary

Spaces from Yesterday, a project by Amy Ho, is at Chandra Cerrito Contemporary gallery in Oakland. Ho collaborated with artists in San Quentin State Prison to create spaces based on the artists’ meaningful memories. The first of five installations is on view now until Thursday, 9/29.

TREGGIARI: She’s got a lot of commitment to the San Quentin Prison population. I think she’s doing this project in the right way, and I would love to see the manifestation of that work.

Until Saturday, 8/27, Maintenance + Gradient is showing at Johansson Projects in Oakland. Dan Grayber shows his unusual machine creations under glass, while Craig Dorety shows time-lapse works that function as studies of light and sunsets.

TREGGIARI: Aesthetically the pieces are gorgeous, and I think there’s a lot of great mystery and magic to their work.

Swans is in concert at Regency Ballroom on Saturday, 9/3. The New York-based band played together for 15 years before breaking up in the 1990’s. This incarnation will incorporate some old and new ideas that leader Michael Gira picked up while making music as Angels of Light since then.

TREGGIARI: The power of their rhythm , it really goes through you. It’s an experience.
