Skating legend Tommy Guerrero on the rhythm of the board and the bass
San Francisco’s Tommy Guerrero started his career as a professional skateboarder in the 1980s as a member of the legendary Bones Brigade Crew. They were made up of mostly teenagers who introduced a new generation to skateboarding through their recorded highlight videos. It was during those years touring the world that Tommy also pursued his other passion — music.
"Skating is very therapeutic and so is music... I think I needed something and it pulled me in more."
After picking up the bass guitar as a kid playing punk rock, Tommy has been releasing solo instrumental albums for over twenty years. His latest project Dub Tunes was released last week and for this edition of Bay Area Beats, Tommy came by KALW to share his story.
Tommy Guerrero will be performing Thursday, February 28 at the New Parish in Oakland
