From prison activism to revolutionary poetry, author and educator TongoEisen-Marten's work has taken him from San Francisco to South Africa, with a stop at Riker's Island and Columbia University along the way.
We speak with Eisen-Marten about his recent work around extrajudicial killing of black Americans, and his human-rights advocacy in Jackson, Mississippi.
"I'm really kind of like a man with his instrument, and I will go play it anywhere for anybody who wants to hear it."
Both Tongo Eisen-Martin and Josiah Alderete will be featured readers at the latest installment of our Sights & Sounds of East Oakland. It's tomorrow at 6pm at the 81st Ave Library in East Oakland. Poetry, storytelling, and community discussion — for free!
