Bay Area Beats: Eli Conley
Eli Conley is a roots singer/songwriter and the founder of Queer Country West Coast, a music series here in the Bay Area featuring queer folk and country artists.
Eli grew up in central Virginia and was steeped in country music at an early age. Songs like “Strong and Tender” draw on his musical education as well as his own experiences as a transgender man.
Eli came into KALW’S studios to talk about why he writes “modern folk songs for misfits” in this edition of Bay Area Beats.
"As a queer person and as a transgender person, I find that the music that I write — while I very much want it to be for every single person — has this kind of bent side to it, where it is intended for people who feel a little bit outside the mainstream."
Eli Conley is playing Friday, December 21, at the Queer Folk Punk Holiday Disaster Show at the Lost Church in San Francisco.
