Sights & Sounds: Carly Bond

Sights and Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. This week, guest host Truc Nguyen sits down with singer-songwriter Carly Bond of the band Meernaa to talk about three events happening around the Bay this weekend.

For those who start their weekend on Thursday, local musicians Sis, Lalin St Juste and Sitka Sun will be playing at Amnesia in San Francisco on Thursday night. It will be one dreamy and meditative evening starting at 9pm.

Also on Thursday night at more of a rock show, you can catch two bands that were local but have recently relocated to LA, Spooky Mansion and Tino Drima. They will be performing at the Great American Music Hall starting at 8pm.

As part of the Arab Film Festival that's been going on around the Bay Area, Oakland filmmaker Nadia Shihab's documentary Jaddoland is screening at the New Parkway in Oakland this Sunday. It's their first feature-length documentary, and it's about her mother who is an artist from Iraq living in Texas, exploring themes of dislocation, history, and the meaning of home.

Carly Bond is the singer of the Oakland-based band Meernaa. This summer, they released their first full length album called Heart Hunger.
