On this edition of Your Call, we’ll get an update on how San Francisco is handling its unhoused population during #COVID19. Last week, advocates staged a protest outside of Mayor London Breed’s house to demand more hotel rooms for people without homes.
Officials say 30,000 hotel rooms are still vacant. After months of public outcry, the Board of Supervisors called on Mayor Breed to immediately procure 8,250 hotel rooms for unhoused people. So far, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, only 2,7000 rooms have been leased.
We'll also discuss ReclaimSF, a group of housed and unhoused community members who say they are tired of waiting for the city to address the immediate need for housing. They are working to open vacant units for unhoused people.
