Peaches Christ on producing cult classic films as drag goes mainstream

David Ayllon
Peaches Christ

Peaches Christ has been a force in the San Francisco drag scene for more than twenty years as audiences around the world have enjoyed the legendary diva. The performer, playwright, and filmmaker is known for putting her own hilarious spin on cult films by producing parodies.

"I'd never worn a costume so outlandish, so what you realize is that by becoming another character it just pulls the performance out of you."

KALW’s Jenee Darden recently sat down with Joshua Grannell, also known as Peaches Christ.  They talked about growing up Catholic in Maryland and how an encounter with filmmaker John Waters changed everything.

You can catch Peaches performing in her new show "The Whining" tonight 1/22 and tomorrow 1/23 at the Gateway Theatre in San Francisco.
