This November, voters in a handful of cities around the Bay Area will be voting on cannabis taxes.
The state already taxes registered cannabis businesses with sales taxes, excise taxes, and cultivation taxes. Generally, these measures, if they pass, would allow the cities and in some cases, counties to start collecting additional taxes on cannabis-related businesses.
They’re in San Francisco, Oakland, Morgan Hill, Santa Clara, even Half Moon Bay — they all have to do with taxing what is now legal cannabis businesses. But, location to location they’re very different.
