Gentrification may be changing the racial demographics of San Francisco. But census data show people of color makeup over half of the city’s population.
A group of artists and writers of color want to remind people about the city’s diversity. They’re part of the anthology Endangered Species, Enduring Values.
The collection features works by over 70 contributors that show the diverse experiences and cultural richness of San Francisco. KALW’s Jeneé Darden spoke with the book’s editor Shizue Seigel.
"I had been thinking because of gentrification people of color were the endangered species. And we survived because of our enduring values, spiritual values, and our connection with history — with the land and each other."
