A Prisoner Dreams Of Becoming A Rancher

JulianGlenn Padgett
Aaron Daria and Joe Kirk, two inmates at Solano State Prison, talk about their dreams.

From the series Uncuffed:

Doing time in incarceration, a person can often lose hope. But that’s not the case for Aaron Daria. He has elaborate plans to start a ranch once he is paroled. Uncuffed producer Joe Kirk, who is also incarcerated, sat down with Aaron to ask him about his dream.

Daria, who was born in San Francisco, committed his offense at age 16 and was tried as an adult. He wants young people to be able to visit his farm, and learn how to ranch too.

"Being able to be connected to the land, and not all this concrete and steel, would help show people what life is about."

Uncuffed is recorded and edited by men at Solano State Prison. Learn more about them here.

Joe Kirk paroled in 2020, after serving 5 years. The one thing that kept Joe going in prison was the memory of his grandparents' farm on the outskirts of Peoria, Illinois.
