On this edition of Your Call, we speak with Steve Almond about his new book Bad Stories: What the Hell Just Happened to Our Country.

Steve Almond says he wrote the book to keep from going crazy. It argues that democracy is being undermined by the bad stories we tell ourselves. Bad Stories explores political parody, race, class, immigration, and what happens when the free press turns into a for profit industry. How are you making sense of the moment we are in?

Guest:

Steve Almond, author of eight books of fiction and nonfiction including Candyfreak and Against Football, instructor at the Nieman Fellowship for Journalism at Harvard University, and co-host of the New York Times podcast "Dear Sugars"
