Native Americans who opposed the Dakota Access Oil Pipeline were subjected to tear gas, water cannons, rubber bullets, and strip searches. The Intercept reports that they were also heavily surveilled.

According to leaked documents, the international mercenary firm TigerSwan collaborated with police in at least five states and worked at the behest of Energy Transfer Partners, the company building the pipeline.
