Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. Our guest is Stroy Moyd: Bay Area comedian and head of local independent comedy production company, Hella Funny. You can catch him at the Punchline on Wednesday, 6/28.
Moyd told KALW’s Jen Chien about three cool arts events happening around the Bay.
On weekends, a free dance and drum circle happens at the Ashby Flea Market in Berkeley’s Ashby BART parking lot. Every Saturday and Sunday participants play congas, djembes, bongos and other percussion. It goes on all day, and anyone can join in.
MOYD: There's so many instruments and so many positive vibes. It's where I go to meditate.
The dance party, Motown on Mondays runs weekly on Mondays at the Madrone Art Bar in San Francisco. Regular DJ’s Gordo Cabeza, Timoteo Gigante & The Captain play original hits, remixes and Motown-related tunes. The night also features chair massage by “Detroit’s own” Jeanelle.
MOYD: If you like Marvin Gaye, if you like the Temptations, if you want to feel good, come out. It's feel-good music.

The GrooveWell dance party is at Milk Bar, in San Francisco’s Haight- Ashbury neighborhood, every 2nd and 4th Monday. The night starts out with games and comedy and then the music begins at 10pm. Host DJ’s and special guests spin disco, funk, hip-hop and house.
MOYD: it's a collective of DJ's that play a really dope, distinctive, mixture of music.
