John Lennon would have been 85 years old this year, so on the October 12 broadcast we listened to some deep cuts from recent anniversary re-issues of his solo and Beatles recordings, along with Lennon-centric Beatles covers from Bay Area artists.
The best place to start for the latter is the UnderCover Presents tribute to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The Hot Club of San Francisco also released a jazzy Beatles tribute album a few years back, John Paul George & Django.
Some of my favourite Lennon recordings are the acoustic demos for The Beatles (aka The White Album) that the band recorded at George's house shortly after returning from India in the spring of 1968.
