The CZU Lightning Complex fires cover parts of San Mateo County, and Santa Cruz County. The fires there have burnt more than 80 thousand acres. Yesterday, a marine layer came in and was a welcome help to the firefighters today, helping cool the area.

There have been at least 77 thousand evacuations, though some people stayed despite evacuation orders to fight the fires themselves. One place that did evacuate was UC Santa Cruz.

In this interview, Luisa Cardoza, business manager and a host at the university’s radio station KZSC, talks about how students and staff are affected.
