Last year, Oakland became Hollywood north. The Town was featured prominently in three mainstream movies: "Blindspotting," "Sorry to Bother You," and, of course, "Black Panther."
That emergence puts a brighter spotlight on the Oakland International Film Festival, starting next week. And — full disclosure — there’s a new filmmaker in town. KALW! A week from Saturday, we’re premiering our “Where Is East Oakland?” short doc at the fest.
And there’s plenty to see besides that. In this interview, David Roach, the festival’s co-founder and director, discusses film and his roles in the community.
