Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf is campaigning for re-election.

Four years ago, Libby Schaaf won Oakland’s election for mayor. Since then, the city has experienced major changes, from a rise in homelessness to a tech and real estate boom and winning NBA championships. Mayor Schaaf is campaigning for re-election and is up against nine other candidates.

"The people who are moving into Oakland, the can afford the price of new housing. If we don't build it for them, they are pushing out people who are here now."

KALW reporter Jeneé Darden met up with Mayor Libby Schaaf, in the back of her minivan. They spoke about why the mayor wants to keep leading the city.

You can find Jeneè's interviews with all the Oakland mayoral candidates here.
