WEB EXTRA: Bob Gammon on Oakland politics

East Bay Express' cover story about Lynette Gibson McElhaney

East Bay Express Editor Robert Gammon recently wrote an article about the question of bias in media. The Express doesn’t shy away from controversy, recently publishing an investigation of ethical and legal violations by new Oakland City Council board president Lynnette Gibson McElhaney.

In this web exclusive segment, Gammon goes deeper into the East Bay Express’ coverage of the controversy, as well as the recent shift in Oakland politics.

ROBERT GAMMON: There's a lot of excitement going on with Libby Schaaf, I think she has the potential to be really good mayor. She's well-liked by a broad spectrum of people in Oakland, so she has a lot of support and she's a pretty smart woman. I thought the election of the council president was somewhat disappointing. We've been writing over the past month about Lynette Gibson McElhaney and her many legal and ethical transgressions, and we were surprised that she was elected council president.
