CIVIC: Is SF a Sanctuary City if There's No Shelter for Migrants?

This episode: Increases in the number of migrants arriving in San Francisco have stress-tested the city’s shelter system, revealing the dire need for more housing and support for families. We talk to migrant parents driven out of their homes by violence and political upheaval about navigating San Francisco’s homeless response system and its impacts on their families’ health and wellbeing as they fight for a better future. A housing provider shares the limitations of the city’s data on family homelessness, and an immigration attorney tells us how a stable living situation helps migrant families with their court cases. Based on Madison Alvarado's reporting for San Francisco Public Press.

Civic is the flagship radio program and podcast from the San Francisco Public Press. It engages listeners with civic life by approaching San Francisco’s inner workings from the standpoint of curious stakeholders — whether they are residents, workers, visitors or otherwise connected to the city. It asks smart questions and takes an investigative approach to the stories people might wish were in the news more often. Civic aims to inspire and empower listeners to become involved in making sure their city works for them.

The program is produced by Liana Wilcox, with reporter Sylvie Sturm, and Mel Baker, producer and contributor.
