Sights and Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. We're changing things up a bit because of the shelter-in-place order. This week host Jenee Darden sits down with award-winning poet MK Chavez to talk about three art suggestions for you to see, hear and do at home.

UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive

The BAMPFA Channel features gallery talks, lectures and artists’ discussions online. Content dates back a few years so catch up on an event that you missed in person or learn more about what BAMPFA offers.

Oakland Museum of California Collections Online

See historical photos of the Great Depression, the 1960s and ‘70s movements, beautiful images of California’s nature and more. MK Chavez recommends the Dorothea Lange photo collection. Jenee is fascinated with the photos of snuff bottles. Parents who are homeschooling their children can explore the online collection with their kids and learn some California history together.

All of Us with Wings by Michelle Ruiz Keil

This YA novel has received raving reviews from the New York Times, Publishers Weekly and readers. All of Us with Wings is about a teen girl growing up in 1980s San Francisco. She runs away from her painful past and moves in with a rockstar family. She and her new friend accidentally summon supernatural beings who seek revenge on the people who hurt her, and things real get interesting.

MK Chavez is the author of Mothermorphosis and Dear Animal, from Nomadic Press
