Bay Area residents will remember March 17, 2020 as the day they were ordered to "shelter in place" in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, or the novel coronavirus. Downtown San Francisco felt like a completely different place as the order took effect. This collection of photos captures some of the mood of the city — from empty streets, to cleaned out supermarkets, to discarded produce from restaurants that lost their customers.
