Your Call: What are the long-term impacts of youth who spend time behind bars?

Youth Radio
Unlocked, an investigation into juvenile incarceration and its alternatives

On the August 19th edition of Your Call, we’ll continue our week-long series on the prison system by talking about juvenile incarceration.

While the juvenile incarceration rate is at its lowest level since 1975, the US still locks up youth at high rates compared to similarly governed countries - and the vast majority are behind bars for nonviolent offenses. What happens to kids once they get entangled in the juvenile justice system?

We’ll talk to Youth Radio reporters about their recent investigation into youth incarceration and attorney Frankie Guzman with the National Center for Youth Law.

Soraya Shockley is reporter for Youth Radio.

Brett Myers is a Senior Producer at Youth Radio.

Frankie Guzman is an attorney at the National Center for Youth Law.
