This week on KALW's showcase for the best stories from public radio podcasts and independent radio producers...
"Book chronicles Michigander's role in woman's suffrage" originally aired on Current State, March 2014.

When I think of Valentine’s Day, there’s one clip of media that comes to my mind instantly. It features one of my favorite television heroines, Liz Lemon from NBC’s 30 Rock, reclaiming Valentine’s Day as “Anna Howard Shaw Day.” I’ve brought that idea up to my friends every February 14th since the episode aired, like a badge of feminist honor. It seems like a fitting way to kick off a Valentine’s Day show than with a history lesson on Anna Howard Shaw, doesn't it?
Last year, Journalist Scott Pohl sat down with Historian Trisha Franzen to talk about her book, “Anna Howard Shaw: The Work of Woman Suffrage,” which aired on WKAR's Current State.

"Eat Cake," produced and directed by Jonathan Mitchell from the podcast The Truth. Originally released in 2009 on Weekend America.
This piece is an improvised radio drama about Valentine’s Day that leaves even a cynic like me holding a little ember of empathy for the holiday.
"Eat Cake" was entirely improvised by the actors: Eliza Skinner, Birch Harms, and Curtis Gwen Edited by Hilary Frank. To find out about how this piece was made, and how to subscribe to The Truth's podcast, visit their website.
This week's episode featured music from: Black Moth Super Rainbow, Django Reinhardt, Jon Brion, and The Beatles.
