Let's Talk Trash: Waste-to-Energy in California

SYSAV's waste-to-energy plant in Malmo, Sweden

On May 2, 2016 on our program we were talking trash. Garbage that is.

Did you know that Californians still send 30 million tons of waste to landfills annually? Couldn't all that trash be put to better use?  Co-host Ethan Elkind and guests talk about the current state of municipal waste and explore the potential for turning trash into energy. That's City Visions, here on local public radio, KALW, San Francisco.

Guests:

Jack Macy, Senior Commercial Zero Waste Coordinator for the City and County of San Francisco Department of the Environment.

Rob White, Chief Strategist at Sierra Energy, a waste gasification and renewable energy company founded in Davis, California in 2004.

Heather Youngs, Senior Analysis Fellow at the Energy Biosciences Institute at the University of California, Berkeley and an adjunct professor of biochemistry at Michigan Technological University.
