This week on Open Air, KALW’s radio magazine for the Bay Area Performing Arts in Times of Corona, guest host Angie Coiro talks with director and producer Jacob Kornbluth about Talk Boring to Me, his new project with comedian W. Kamau Bell; also, a conversation with comedian Lisa Geduldig, about her new initiative Lockdown Comedy. And, as part of Open Air’s Corona Radio Theater we present Episode 4, Dimension 2020! - It Came From R&D!, of the San Francisco Mime Troupe’s summer podcast series Tales of the Resistance.
Tales of the Resistance is a nine-part series of original political comedy radio plays by the San Francisco Mime Troupe. In this fourth episode Dimension 2020! - It Came From R&D! (brought to you Science Fiction-style), we meet Greg, a seemingly mild-mannered software developer. But no one could predict that his invention could either save democracy, or lock the country into an endless cycle of tyranny and oppression...
We talk with comedian Lisa Geduldig, who is in lockdown in Florida and who launched a monthly comedy series Lockdown Comedy, taking place on Zoom every third Thursday of the month at 7pm Pacific.
Some 200 people from throughout the US, as well as an ex-pat in Berlin and one in Kathmandu, ‘attended’ the inaugural event in July. Lisa’s octogenarian mother, Arline, with whom she is hunkered down and spending lockdown in Florida, was and will continue to be the monthly special guest.
Arline, who joins the conversation, did stand up for the first time as her daughter runs a virtual comedy club out of her retirement community home. Also joining is Cathy Ladman, one of the featured comedians on this month’s Lockdown Comedy.
Plus, we talk with award winning director, producer and writer Jacob Kornbluth about his collaboration with comedian W. Kamau Bell in Talk Boring to Me, a new animated series that examines the most relevant social issues facing the US - everything from the Census to food, public education, gig economy, asylum, and homelessness - in easy-to-understand videos that capture Bell’s trademark humor, undercut with teachable moments.
On August 20, Jacob Kornbluth is featured guest in an exclusive interview about this new work on MarshStream with Marsh Founder/Artistic Director Stephanie Weisman.
Open Air with guest host Angie Coiro, heard live on Thursday, August 20 at 1pm. To be archived at this location afterwards…
