This week on Open Air, host David Latulippe talks with American soprano Ellie Dehn, who makes her San Francisco Opera debut in the title role of ‘Manon’ by Jules Massenet (1842-1912). Conducted by Patrick Fournillier and directed by Vincent Boussard, ‘Manon’ opens this weekend (Nov 4) and runs through November 22.

From the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra, we meet with music director and conductor David Ramadanoff, who brings along guest violinist Ariel Horowitz to discuss YPSO’s upcoming Fall concert. On the program, this Sunday at the First Congregational Church in Berkeley, are Dvorak’s ‘Carnival Overture’, Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 (featuring Ariel Horowitz), and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.

Also stopping by is award-winning choreographer and performer Jess Curtis, Artistic Director of Gravity, to discuss the ensemble’s seventh biennial performance event, Intercontinental Collaborations #7, which runs November 2-5 at The Joe Goode Annex (401 Alabama Street, San Francisco).

Created and curated by Curtis, ICC7  brings acclaimed artists from around the world to the Bay Area to present and create work that addresses issues of physical diversity, dis/ability, access, digital technologies and their social consequences. Joining the conversation is guest choreographer Tara Brandel, from Cork, Ireland, where she is artistic director of Croi Glan Integrated Dance, a dance company comprised of able and dis/abled dancers.

Plus, writer and performer Kate Robards shares details about her new autobiographical one-woman show ‘Ain't That Rich’, in which she describes growing up ‘poor’ in an East Texas town, trying to keep up with the small-town wealthy people, until she escapes by marrying ‘rich’. Kate Robards performs at The Marsh in San Francisco through December 2.

Open Air with host David Latulippe; heard live on Thursday, November 2 at 1pm. Listen now or anytime…
