This week on Open Air, host David Latulippe talks with choreographer Robert Moses about the world premiere of ‘Trick Bags/Trap Doors/Painted Corners’, created by Robert Moses, together with guest choreographers Terence Marling and Latanya d. Tigner.
With two weekends of performances, May 12-14 and May 19-21 at Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco, ‘Trick Bags/Trap Doors/Painted Corners’ looks at how parents leave their children vulnerable, how literally dangerous it is for children of different heritages to be friends if they buy into ideas of colorblindness and meritocracy.
From the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra, we meet with conductor Ming Luke and tenor Brian Thorsett, about upcoming performances by the BCCO of Dvorak's ‘Stabat Mater’, which feature Ariana Strahl, soprano, Kara Cornell, mezzo soprano, and Colin Ramsey, bass, as well as Thorsett himself. The concerts are at Hertz Hall on the Cal campus Friday June 2 at 8, Saturday June 3 and Sunday June 4 at 3 pm.
Also stopping by is pianist Frederick Hodges, who is the featured guest artist with the California Pops Orchestraduring their season finale concert at Cupertino's Flint Center on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 3 pm, titled ‘Best of the Pops’. Hodges will join the 75-piece entertainment symphony to play piano for the Gershwin musical, ‘Oh, Kay!’, as well as for special original arrangements from the 1920s and 30s.
