This week on Open Air, host David Latulippe talks with choreographer Amy Lewis, who has enlisted five other Bay Area choreographers to each choreograph to one of J.S. Bach’s ‘Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello’, performed this weekend at the Community Music Center on Capp Street in San Francisco. Also, a conversation with Janet Koike and Ed Holmes about ‘Island City Waterways’, celebrating the past and present of Alameda, California, through music, dance, theater, storytelling and the visual arts, on May 21 and 22. Music Director Dr. Anne Hege and Bay Area composer Ann Callaway stop by to discuss the Voci Women’s Vocal Ensemble presentation of ‘Songs of the Bygone: Traces of a Vanishing World,’, which features the premiere of Callaway’s “On Music and Nature: Three Hopkins Settings,” based on poems by 19th century English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. And Ethiopian-American singer-songwriter Meklit Hadero joins us in the studio to perform live and share details about the world premiere of her latest work ‘This Was Made Here: A Diasporic Odyssey’, which runs in the YBCA Forum May 19 - 21.
