Isfahan Blues ~ The Rise of Humanity ~ Magic Flute in San Jose ~ Summer Reading

This week on Open Air, guest host Kevin Vance talks to composer Stacy Garrop and conductor and artistic director Robert Geary of the San Francisco Choral Society about the world premiere of The Rise of Humanity, the second movement of Garrop’s composition Terra Nostra; also, a conversation with baritone Matthew Hanscom, member of Opera San Jose’s resident ensemble, who sings the role of Papageno in the current production of Mozart’s Magic Flute; African-American Shakespeare Company’s artistic director L. Peter Callender and Bay Area jazz maestro Marcus Shelby discuss the world premiere of Isfahan Blues, a new play inspired by Duke Ellington’s 1963 tour of Iran, produced in cooperation with Golden Thread Productions; and regular contributor and critic at large Peter Robinson talks about Bay Area bookstores and gives some recommendations for summer reading.
