KALW's On-Air Folk Festival Returns this Saturday!

Baraka Moon

The KALW folk festival is back this Saturday April 28th from 3 to 8 pm.  It's five hours of continuous music in the KALW studios performed by some of the Bay Area's finest talent.

Presented by festival hosts JoAnn Mar, Kevin Vance, and Peter Thompson.  Here's the line-up:

3:00 pm  Baraka Moon is a multi-cultural band that weaves together African rhythms, Sufi trance music, Indian ragas, and Australian aboriginal sounds.  Band members are vocalist and harmonium player Sukhawat Ali Khan; percussionist and didgeridoo master Stephen Kent; drummer and percussionist Peter Warren; and guitarist, ukulele player AnastasiMavrides.

3:45 pm  The Seamus Egan Project performs traditional and Irish-inspired songs.  Led by multi-instrumentalist Seamus Egan (founding member of the renowned Irish-American band Solas) with Kyle Sanna on guitar, Owen Marshall on bouzouki, and Moire Smiley on vocals and accordion.

4:15 pm  Misner & Smith are Sam Misner on guitar and Megan Smith on bass.  Their soaring harmonies give their songs added resonance and a distinctive quality that sets them apart from other singers.  They'll perform songs from their latest CD "Headwaters".

5:00 pm  Cynthia Lin; She describes herself as a Modern Day Jazz Ukulele Diva. Her versions of familiar songs are joyful, sweet, and surprising.  She not only sings and plays but also gives tutorials on her YouTube Channel.
