Happy Birthday, MLK & Captain Beefheart

Two renegades who share a birthday and a legacy in song.

This coming Monday is the national observance of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, born January 15, 1929. Don Van Vliet (aka Captain Beefheart) was born on the same date in 1941. Tune in as host Devon Strolovitch plays music to mark their shared birthdays this Saturday at 8 pm.

Devon Strolovitch studied medieval Judeo-Portuguese manuscripts and earned a PhD in Linguistics from Cornell University before coming to KALW. He is the Senior Producer of Philosophy Talk, and since 2007 has hosted Fog City Blues, the weekly digest of Blues in the Bay Area and beyond.
