Bay Area singer Rhonda Benin has toured professionally for over 25 years,as a member of the beloved, Grammy-nominated Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir and as a soloist. Rhonda’s experience as a woman in music led her to create her annual Women’s History Month concert, Just Like A Woman. The show, which features a cast of powerful female singers from the Bay Area along with Rhonda, all performing an original song and cover song, happens this weekend in Berkeley for the 6th year. Rhonda spoke with KALW's Jen Chien about why this show is so important to her.
You can see Just Like A Woman on March 31 at The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley.
At the end of the show, I go outside and kind of position myself where nobody can really see me and I'm listening to people walk past me singing and laughing and skipping to their car. And I thought, 'Okay, we got something here."
