Mayor owns pot shop… Grow bans approved by CA court… Are you puffing pesticides?...  Bill Clinton did inhale, and so did Greg Kihn… and more.

POLITICS

SF Gate // Robert Jacob, a cannabis dispensary owner and legalization advocate has been named mayor of Sebastopol, CA, in California’s wine country.

COPS & COURTS

SF Gate // “Smoking marijuana has a very negative effect on your ability to operate a motor vehicle,” says the nation’s drug czar. Legalization advocates note that it’s similar to driving under the influence of penicillin.

SF Gate // There is no "unfettered right to cultivate marijuana for medical purposes," according to a state Appellate Court ruling last week, meaning California cities and counties can ban cultivation, similar to prohibitions of alcohol sales by local jurisdictions.

HEALTH

Times Standard // If there are pesticides in your smoke, "a huge amount" transfers to your lungs, according to the latest speaker in the Humboldt Institute for Interdisciplinary Marijuana Research's lecture series.

SF Gate // CBD, a non-psychoactive element of cannabis, is testing positively as a brain cancer treatment, according to studies in Canada, Italy and Spain.

DISPENSARIES

MMJ Daily // The DeAngelo brothers of Oakland’s Harborside Health Center are among the 100 applicants in the running for dispensary permits in Boston. Most operators find it difficult enough to run one location, without dealing with laws and regulations in more than one state.

Smell the Truth // The Green Door and Green Crossdispensaries tied for number of awards taken home from this year's San Francisco Patients' Choice Medical Cannabis Cup.

Santa Cruz Cup // And let’s not forget our neighbors to the south. Here are the winners of this year’s competition in Santa Cruz.

IN OTHER NEWS

Bloomberg // Cannabis legalization is being talked about in Morocco. An estimated 800,000 Moroccans already make their living from the illegal plant. A change in the law would allow growers to sell to the government instead of drug traffickers.

Fusion // Bill Clinton says he never said he never inhaled. Or that might be what he said. See for yourself.

SF Gate // Speaking of inhaling, former rocker and Bay Area DJ Greg Kihn definitely did the deed when he visited Abbey Road Studios – “in the sacred stall where the Beatles used to smoke after hours when they were working on ‘Sgt. Pepper’.”

KALW/Crosscurrents // The lead story on “Crosscurrents” next Thursday (12/12) will be an inside look at this year’s cannabis harvest in Mendocino. The program airs at 5 pm on 91.7FM. Also find the story on the station website (www.kalw.org) later that evening.
