HOW WILD: Untrammeled [Encore]

By definition, wilderness areas are supposed to remain free from human intervention unless absolutely necessary. In this episode, Marissa heads off-trail in Sequoia National Park to consider how climate change is challenging that notion.

HOW WILD, the seven-part series from KALW's Marissa Ortega-Welch, hits trails around the country, exploring the meaning of wilderness. A century ago, the U.S. set aside the first official wilderness. You'll hear stories from rangers, scientists, hikers, environmentalists, and Tribal leaders as they grapple with the realities of wilderness on a changing planet, and whether the concept of "wilderness" has ever really existed.

Join Marissa and KALW for a live event Tuesday, July 22 at 7pm at KALW’s community space at 220 Montgomery Street in downtown San Francisco. She’ll be in conversation with Jon Jarvis, the former director of the National Park Service, about the state of public lands right. For more information, head to kalw.org/events
