This week, we are heading to the Western side of San Francisco to hear some quirky tales about the history of the Richmond and Sunset districts. Our guides are local historians that produce the Outside Lands podcast — and their guests from the neighborhoods.
On today’ show, we hear from legendary documentary photographer Michael Jang, a longtime resident of the Richmond. He’s best known for his 1970s photographs of Chinese-American family life, Hollywood movie stars, and the San Francisco punk rock scene. During the pandemic, massive posters from that body of work transformed boarded-up storefronts in the Richmond into a street-level art gallery.
