This week on KALW's showcase for the best stories from public radio podcasts and independent radio producers...
“The moon and other things,” originally aired on the ABC RN podcast This Is About, November 2016.
Produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio National team, This Is About is a radio documentary program that focuses on the beautiful, dismal, and extraordinary things that actually happen to people around the world. Today, they bring us the little known story of the unsung hero who made sure that the first astronauts who walked on the moon made it back home in one piece.
You can subscribe to the podcast This Is About on Apple Podcasts or on whatever other podcatchers you prefer. You can also listen to episodes at the ABC RN website.
“Toni Henson and Camaran Henson,” from the StoryCorps podcast, March 2017.
As a kid, Camaran Henson listened for hours as his grandfather Leonard Simmons told him stories about his time as a police officer in Newark, New Jersey. Leonard died in 2013, but his stories are living on through Camaran and Camaran’s mom, Toni. They both stepped into the StoryCorps’ booth in 2017 to remember Leonard.
You can hear more stories like Camaran and Toni’s by subscribing to StoryCorps’ podcast. Find out more at storycorps.org/podcast.
This week's episode featured music from: Black Moth Super Rainbow, Booker T. & The MG’s, Dave Baby Cortez, and Laura Greene.
