As George Floyd lay on the ground in handcuffs last Monday, Derek Chauvin, a white officer, pressed his knee on to Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, according to a criminal complaint against him. Chauvin and other three officers were fired on Tuesday. Chauvin was arrested on Friday for third degree murder and manslaughter. The other officers remain under investigation. According to Mapping People Violence, 99 percent of police killings from 2014 to 2019 did not result in officers being charged. What do you make of the protests? Will they result in systemic change?
