By 2015 a new fast lane will be introduced on six different Bay Area throughways, including the Bay Bridge. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is calling them “express lanes” and they’re going to replace current carpool lanes. The MTC has already approved up to $111.7 million to fund the conversion's first year…

While we’re throwing out numbers, in Oakland 5,000 new jobs have been created this past year and unemployment  has gone down 2 percent. In a State of the City address last night, Oakland Mayor Jean Quan discussed the economy, new jobs, building permits, and sales tax revenue—but did not mention Occupy Oakland. Quan emphasized the city is “on the rise”…

Food trucks may be on the rise too. In San Francisco's Board of Supervisors meeting, there's discussion that the city may start allowing food trucks on college and hospital campuses. Supervisor Scott Wiener, who believes we should “increase choices” in food available on these campuses, initiated the proposal.  San Francisco State University or Kaiser Permanente would have permission to host food trucks. Others worry they may not be the healthiest options…

When it comes to health, website e-Toothache Remedies is rolling out a new free feature that will help educate low-income families about their oral health. Their goal is to offer an educational resource for those battling toothaches work towards long-term, preventative solutions. While not a substitute for dental professionals, e-Toothache hopes to teach people about the seriousness of toothaches and how low cost remedies can help.
