Wetland Project

Monday, April 22nd
Listen at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The Wetland Project created by artists Brady Marks and Mark Timmings is a study of an environemental soundscape. The sounds were recorded in the TEKTEKSEN marsh in traditional WSÁNEĆ territory, located on Saturna Island, British Columbia. The sounds heard on KALW's broadcast of two of the 24-hours of the Wetland Project were recorded exactly one year ago today at the same time. Microphones were placed on a fallen tree in the middle of the marsh and recorded without interruption for 24-hours. You'll hear what the wetland sounds like around 5 p.m. and then at 10 p.m.  As many wetlands move toward extinction, more and more of the sounds heard among nature are machines made by  humans -- cars, planes, etc.
