El Cerrito-based Arhoolie Records is an independent record label founded in 1960 by Chris Strachwitz as a way for him to record and produce music by previously-obscure "down-home blues" artists.

Arhoolie exposed the wider public to important regional musics championing the artistry of such artists as Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb, BeauSoleil, Flaco Jiménez, and others. Just ahead of a free online event celebrating the label's 60th anniversary, we listen back to an interview with founder Chris Strachwitz and writer Adam Machado (with guest host JoAnn Mar) around the time of Arhoolie's 50th anniversary and the release of Hear Me Howling: Blues, Ballads, & Beyond. Wednesday 12/09 at 10 pm.
