Fog City Blues: Field Day at Community Music Center

Community Music Center faculty are debuting a timely concert for Field Day, “Cultural Traditions of the Diaspora”, with compositional themes that speak topically to issues on immigration, social justice, gentrification and displacement.

The program is curated by Miguel Govea and Tregar Otton, who, with CMC faculty from the Brass Winds and Cultural Traditions department performing, explore cultural dispersals throughout the compositions emphasizing musical migrations found in tango, jazz, Afro-Cuban with additional elements infused in the pieces. Stand out compositions include "Cuando Se Van," written by Cecilia Peña-Govea, which addresses -- through music -- the impact of gentrification on the Bay Area’s artistic community and the aftermath, particularly in San Francisco. Miguel and Tregar join host Devon Strolovitch this Wednesday 2/27 at 10 pm to preview the Feld Day festivites on March 16.
