Rob Reich is quintessentially what makes the Bay Area music scene a vibrant and vital mecca for independent music. His music defies genre, combining strong melodic ideas, rhythmic drive, and a spirit of irreverence and experimentation.
His latest project, Rob Reich Swings Left, features jazz music for dancing, rooted in the classic swing era of the late 1930s. Featuring classic arrangements of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Artie Shaw, Swings Left branches off from there and also features Reich's original music in the style, combining a hot rhythm with a cool sensibility. The Rob Reich Quartet joins host Devon Strolovitch live in the studio this Wednesday 1/23 at 9 pm ahead of the Sextet's performance this Saturday at Ashenaz in Berkeley.
